Storm Alex brought an enormous amount of rain to Aberystwyth and the Rheidol and Ystwyth catchments, leading to these dramatic scenes in town.
In the first clips in the video, you can see the swelling river Ystwyth powering out to sea. From the top of the headland you could see the sediment plume stretching out from the entrance to the harbour, where the Ystwyth and Rheidol discharge, but it was too difficult to photograph unfortunately. The Rheidol goes through some tight areas with low trees which look very impressive with water roaring around their branches. Some of the riverside paths were totally impassable but other than that there were no significant impacts.
In the final clip in the video, the water is flowing over the cycle path near Morrisons. This water is flowing towards the river and is actually a re-routed tributary and a bit of the Rheidol that has been pushed out of its normal channel by the flooding river and has taken the next quickest route.
