01/01/2022 - Wavy ice edge

While skiing on the ice of Storsjön, Sweden, I came across this fantastically wavy ice edge, with raised up wave crests and lower but still raised wave troughs that rippled along one edge of the lake, below the main ice edge.

The formation of this incredible feature is still a mystery to me, but one of my theories are that it was an ice sheet formed when the lake first began to freeze, from the edge inwards. When waves on the ice began to lash against this edge, it somehow moulded it into this lovely shape. I'm only maybe 30% confident in that theory but it is the only one I have. The waves are solid lake ice, not just snowdrifts.
