The outside air temperature rose to over 30°c and the sun beamed down on the carpark. But how hot did it actually get inside the cars?
To find out, I rigged a thermometer into the car, with a probe on the dashboard in direct sunlight and the main unit above the sun visor in the shade of the car's roof. The results show that my thermometer was in fact inadequate as it maxed out the outdoor probe which is rated to +70°c and almost maxed out the indoor probe which is rated to +60°c.
So the answer to the question is... way too hot. Cooking temperature hot. The in-the-shade temperature I recorded (58°c) may even have been as high as the indoor thermometer would go, with it rated to +60°c. On the dashboard, the probe heated up to higher than 70°c, so who knows how hot it actually got in the sun.
