Although I didn't know it was an Adder at the time, a bit of research when I returned home confirmed that the snake that I'd seen up on Cleeve Hill was in fact the UK's most dangerous.
It was only the second wild snake I've ever seen, second to an encounter with a long grass snake on the platform of Cheltenham Race Course station of all places.
Snakes are such fascinating creatures and I hope I get to see many more on my adventures to come.
