14/06/2021- Sun Pillar

Just after sunset a beam of light appeared, shining up into the sky right over where the sun had vanished below the horizon.

The light beam isn't a distant lighthouse but actually an optical phenomenon called a 'Sun Pillar'. These beams are caused by ice crystals (in this case in the cirrus clouds which you can see) reflecting the sunlight over the horizon back to the viewer, creating a sun pillar.
