08/12/2022 - River of fog from the Ystwyth valley

Early on the 8th December 2022, I woke to the fantastic sight of a river of fog flowing down the Ystwyth valley and out to sea. Fog is always so spectacular viewed from afar, and timelapsing is such a useful tool for seeing what processes are going on and how it's behaving. In this instance, as is often the case for some reason, fog was flowing down just the Ystwyth valley and not the Rheidol. It's fantastic to see it constrained to the valley limits and flowing downhill, out to sea, just like a real river. I presume exactly the same principles are at work, perhaps the air near the ground on the Cambrian mountains cooling and forming fog which is denser than the rest of the air, causing it to flow down into the valleys just like water. An amazing spectacle. The cold temperatures probably also rendered it freezing fog, at least in places!
